CANCELED

As with many things in the past week, we are canceling the 2020 Big Sky GeoCon that was to be held in Missoula in April. You will receive a full refund for your registration fees and workshop fees. If you paid with credit card, the amount will be credited to your credit card. If you paid with a check, we will send your refund in a check format.

I would suggest that you cancel your hotel reservations. The Holiday Inn in Missoula has been very gracious in not charging MAGIP any penalties in light of the current situation.

We know that some of you have put work into presentations, and we want to acknowledge that and thank you. Hang on to it, we will look forward to seeing it at some point in the future.

As far as the workshops, we will send out the presenter’s contact information to those who had signed up for the workshops. The presenters may wish to do those in a different way, but that will be up to them.

Please feel free to contact myself, or any Board member if you do have questions.

I appreciate your patience as we work out any other details and questions that arise.

UAS-Remote Sensing Approaches to Understanding Drivers of Environmental Variability

The objective of this talk is to present on-going research on UAS-remote sensing approaches to improving understanding of drivers of environmental variability in agricultural and natural systems. In agricultural systems, this translates to elucidating the factors that drive spatial and temporal variability in crop yields. Potential drivers include acidic soils, nutrient deficiencies, and water stress. In natural systems, this translates to quantifying the spatial and temporal variability in greenhouse gas emissions, as they relate to permafrost degradation in arctic and boreal systems. Potential drivers include soil moisture content, vegetation cover and composition, and microtopography. UAS-remote sensing methodologies can aid in improving understanding of environmental variability by providing high frequency observations at high spatial resolution.
